what is your adoption story? I always like reading or listening to these they are adorable (I tagged you on a post that I made so you may read it if you like)
My adoption almost didn’t happen!
My human-dad found a rescue group that was located in Tennessee that would bring dogs up to Maryland where they had a better chance at getting adopted. Well, he found a lab-collie mix and arranged to meet the rescue group the next time they were in MD…and when they got there, there were 3 other people trying to adopt that dog. My humans were so mad that they weren’t told that they were waitlisted (they cancelled plans that day to meet and adopt that dog) that they decided that they would work with another rescue to find a dog.
About a month later, my human-dad was on petfinder.com and found a picture of ME! He thought that I had sweet eyes and convinced my human-mom to give the rescue one more try and go to the next adoption event to meet me.
When they came to meet me, the rescue group couldn’t find me!!! They tried to get my humans to meet another dog, but my humans were *super* mad at the rescue at this point and was about to walk away from the adoption event…when my human-dad saw me hiding behind some forgotten crates in a corner. I was so scared of all the other dogs and so many people and so many noises!!!
But my humans took me on a quiet walk - away from everything…and gave me a chance to show them how sweet and nice and loving I can be!
My humans went to the table to fill out the paperwork…and the rescue group couldn’t find my records (do you sense a trend?)! Finally, they handed my humans a folder that said that I was a duchsand named Dixie! WHAT?!? Also, the rescue wanted to take me back to Tennesee until my human-parents cleared the background check. Well, my humans started to worry about the stress of all the travel on me (plus they were worried that the rescue would “lose” me again!) so they convinced one of the volunteers that lived an hour away, to “foster” me for two weeks - until everything cleared.
But all that is behind us! Now I live the life of a super pampered poochie! My human-mom constantly worries about me (she makes me sweaters and jackets and wants to buy me dog-sized Uggs for the winter), while my human-dad tries to convince me to “roll over” (this will never happen, he needs to just give up).
But I love them, and they love me…and they are *still* a little pissed at the rescue group; they never did find my original paperwork, so they don’t know any of my history (I had to get all my shots re-done, because they didn’t trust that I got them all…ugh! That was awful!)…but I’m *very* sure that I’m not a dachsand!
P.S. My humans think I’m a schipperke-mix because one day (right after they adopted me), they were meeting some friends. Their friends brought along their schipperke-mix dog…who looked SO MUCH like me, that at first my human-mom thought that I had escaped and their friends had found me! We could pass as twins (he’s a little wider in the chest, and a little fatter than me…I like to watch my weight! Heh), and we behave the same way (our butts wiggle the same way when we get excited, and we do the same prancing in a circle thing to greet people).
